Making your own homeschool craft resources not only saves you money, it can be a learning experience
as well!  Children love the hands on experience that comes with each of these different recipes and enjoy
learning about the different ingredients of some of the familiar products they use everyday.
Make Your Own Playdough, Paint,
and Other Craft Materials contains
more than one hundred recipes for
making craft materials—dough, clay,
paint, glitter, and other creative
materials—with young children.
Step 1
Choose your sand!  We were super
excited to find these huge
containers of sand at our Dollar
Store!
Measure out an equal amount of
sand.
1/4 Cup.
Step 4
Mix well until your paint and
sand are nice and gritty!  It's now
ready for your project.
After painting, allow it to dry
overnight.
Step 2
Decide how much paint you
want to make!    We will be
using 1/4 Cup.
We used white texture paint to make
the snow in our
Polar Bear Painting!
Gritty texture paint creates a wonderful medium for children's craft projects, dioramas, and anything
else that needs 3-D effect. Additionally it's a fantastic way for children to simply learn about texture in
art.  Provide them with different colors and let them experiment with different amounts of sand.
