masking tape to cover areas to be left white.  Children have fun
learning about basic flag facts alongside this craft!
Step 1
Draw a pencil outline for where the blue of
the flag will be in the shape of a rectangle.
Take a white crayon, press hard and make
stars
Step 4
Using you're blue water color you can begin
to paint in the rectangle over the stars.
Step 5
You need to keep the paint watered down
quite a bit and the stars will begin to show
up.
Step 3
Make stripes with the masking tape all the
way down the paper.  If you like you can cut
you can fit 13 on there.

the gaps between the masking tape.
Step 7
It's okay to go over the top of the tape
because we'll be removing it later.

Step 2
Using masking tape, lay out strips alongside
the rectangle to the other end of the paper.
The paper under the tape will be the white
stripes.
  • Read about the American Flag.  Talk
with children about the meaning of the
    stripes.
  • Why do we say, "Under God?"
Step 6
Once your paint is dry, carefully peel back
the masking tape.  (Mom or Dad might need
to do this)
Step 7
If you go slowly, you can get a crisper edge
for your stripes.
All Done!
Hang your flag up in your classroom, or on a
pole!  Or you can write the pledge of
allegiance on the back.
