For our 2010-2011 school year we are using a program called "The Mystery of History (vol 1),"
which takes children from Creation to the Resurrection of Christ.  This program is published by
Bright
Ideas Press, alongside many supplemental resources designed to enhance the lessons.  This is an
amazing program that I would highly recommend to anyone wanting to take a hands on approach to
their History studies.  Alongside this program we are also using
History Through the Ages from
Homeschool in the Woods, and Artistic Pursuits by Brenda Ellis.  History Through the Ages provides
us with timeline figures, complete with descriptions, to correspond with our studies.  Artisit Pursuits
has some wonderful lessons, photographs and projects for children to learn about early art.
Additionally as many of our lessons come straight from the bible, we are using this fantastic
Illustrated Children's Bible, by Tommy Nelson. This bible has beautiful, color rich artwork on every
couple of pages. (
Photos)  My children quickly fell in love with this bible, and look forward to our
weekly bible studies. I am really happy with each of these titles individually, but I really, REALLY love
how they work together as a whole.  I listed all of them below in the order that I would get them:

The Mystery of History Volume 1 is
written from a Christian, young-earth,
perspective, teaching children to see
God's hand throughout history...and
how the Gospel of Jesus is the mystery
behind all of history!
We purchased a blank timeline from
Miller Pads and Paper for under $10.  It
has a tad bit smaller space across the
page (then recommended with the
timeline figures above) so we'll probably
be adding some flaps and such when
things start to get packed!
History Printables:
The Illustrated Children’s Bible has a
unique format great for today’s families.
More than 600 colorful and historically
historical maps, contemporary maps of
Israel, and illustrations of Solomon's &
Herod's temples, Gilded page edges
Understand history with an illustrated
timeline! This packet includes over
250 black and white timeline figures
with name, date and descriptive text.
Images range from 2.5" to 4+ and
cover the period from 5000BC to
99AD.
Artistic Pursuits is a great program for
History!  We are starting this series at the
K-3 level with And Introduction to the
Visual Arts.  The last third of this book is
dedicated to "Where we find Art" and
contains many projects and ideas you
can use alongside History lessons.

We are using the Kingfisher History
Encyclopedia to enhance our lessons.
There are almost 500 full color pages
with fantastic photographs and
illustrations, and even a timeline at the
top of the page.  Starting with the
Ancient World all they way through
present day.
FYI-This is a secular book
and the first four pages talk of evolution.
I am a public school graduate, and never
recieved any education in Biblical History or
Geography.  This book has helped me
immensely to understand exactly what it is I'm
teaching my children.  There are timelines,
overviews, maps, descriptions of terms and
more for each book of the Bible.  I highly
recommend this book if you are like me, or if you
need a refresher course.
When you buy this
book you get access to free PDF versions of the
maps and charts....great for notebooking!!
The Student Bible Atlas is a great
addition to your notebooking projects.  It
is quite thin and can be stored in the front
or back pocket of your children's binder.
I purchased one for each of my students
to use with our History and Geography
lessons.
This year  (2012) we'll be using Trail
Guide to Bible Geography alonside our
MOH curriculum.  This program has a
corresponding notebooking e-book that
we'll be using to map and chart important
places in biblical history.

Happy Scribe Copybooks are perfect for adding in a bit of
thematic handwriting practice.  I purchased an amazing set of
historical copybooks for a great price.  Best of all they come in
printed and cursive so you can have multiple children working
on the same piece.  You can purchase these book individually
or in a combo pack.  The combo pack is the best deal, each
indidual book has 80 pages,

I printed my books up in black and white, fast draft, both sides
of the paper.  Then added a colorful cover sheet (which is
included with each title).  I bound them all and now have enough
copywork sheets for an entire year for each child.

They have lots of other thematic combo packs too, Bible
verses, Sayings of Jesus, Millitary Heros....
Be sure to check them out!
