I have been dreaming this up for weeks!
Okay, probably months, but I hesitate to let you know what a slacker I am.
SO LOOK!
Freaking Awesome right?
Besides looking so colorful and linguistic (which of course appeases ever nerve in my homeschool body) these actually make up a fun educational game as well:
Total Score, I know!
So you play by rolling the dice and making words from the letters and word endings that you get.
For every word you can make, you get one point.
You can make these with as many letter blocks, and word ending blocks as you like depending on your child’s ability level. (We used 9 blocks total)
You can snag the wooden blocks at the craft store for about 50 cents a pop.
I put full instructions for how to make this game on our main site here!
I even found this cool wooden crate to store it in from the Dollar Tree!
What a Freaking Awesome Day!

That is SO absolutely awesome! I belong to a preschool thru 1st/2nd grade homeschool co-op that meets every other month to exchange learning games we’ve made, or craft kits, etc. We just met last night, but for the first time, I already know what I’ll be making for the next one – in two months! This is perfect!
These are great! Love them! You could probably even add a set of
endings (-ing, -ed, -ly) for the older kids and talk about those kinds
of words.
Those are beautiful and super fun educational tool!!
You ROCK!!! What an outstanding idea!! I’m going to the craft store tonight :)
This will be a great way for my kids to “play” during our school time
Kathy
What an awesome idea! Love it! Will definately do when M is older.
Where did you find the blank wood blocks. Love this idea I can already see lots of fun with this for my little guy.
I love your idea. I did something similar but with word families, I
have special ed K class. each dice had a word family, like cat, hat, mat
sat, rat, bat, on each side. It became a mixed lesson. student would roll each
dice read the word spell it and then tally how many times we would roll that
word. Then we would graph our results. so we practiced spelling word families
and did some graphing. I made about 10 different dice with 10 different word
families.
Thanks so much for this great idea (and the million others you have)! I made these and my son loves them. Thanks again!
SOOOOO awesome AND the colors of my school room!!!! =) going to do this!!! I live in germany, so now i am going to send my friend to the craft store to get me these! thanks for all your great ideas!
I’ve done this before as a present for one of my nephews. Instead of buying the blocks, I got a 2×2 at the hardware store for really cheap then had my husband cut it into 2in. cubes with the miter saw, and sanded them. A little more work, but really cheap and it makes a lot!
